STARTUPS & SAAS

SaaS and startup
operations automation

Strategy before software. Honesty before hype.

Severus works with SaaS companies and startups whose product has outgrown their operations. We map onboarding, billing, support and reporting as one system, remove the manual steps between the tools you already pay for, and say plainly which parts are worth building, which to buy, and which to leave alone until the numbers justify them.

SaaS operations automation for startups and scale-ups

SaaS operations automation is how a growing company keeps adding customers without adding the same number of people to onboarding, support, billing and reporting. For a founder or COO it usually comes down to a few results: customers reaching value in days rather than weeks, the same operations team carrying twice the customers, and numbers the board trusts without a weekend of spreadsheet work.

Severus defines the outcome your business needs, designs the best route to it with the risks mapped upfront, and takes full responsibility for implementing the software that gets you there. We work with seed to Series B startups, SaaS companies and founders turning an idea into a working product.

Start from the outcome, not the tool stack

Startups rarely lack tools. They have a CRM, a billing system, a support desk, a product database and a dozen integrations held together by one person who knows how they fit. The tools were chosen one at a time, each to fix the problem of the week, and nobody decided what the whole set should achieve.

We start by agreeing that with you. Typical examples from startups and SaaS companies:

  • time from signed contract to first value cut from weeks to days;
  • customers doubled with no new operations hires;
  • one source of truth for revenue, churn and pipeline;
  • a product built and live in months rather than a year;
  • founders spending their time on customers and investors, not on admin.

How we work: three stages, each with a clear output

1. Clarity Sprint (two to three weeks). We work through your operations with you, founder to founder, as if it were our own business. The output is a clearly defined point B: what must change, where, by when, and which metrics prove it.

2. Solution Design Sprint. We design several routes to point B, each with its cost, timeline, what it needs from your team, the best-fit technology and the risks, including the cost of subscriptions you pay for and do not use, and whether today’s stack can carry the next stage of growth.

3. Implementation. We choose the option together, and Severus implements it exactly as agreed, with a fixed price and timeline set after the design stage. We take full responsibility for delivery and can stay on as your product and operations team grows.

Startup operations automation: where companies usually start

Customer onboarding

Onboarding is where most early SaaS companies lose time and customers. Standardising the steps first and automating them second shortens time-to-value and frees the team. Our guide to automating customer onboarding for SaaS shows the order of work.

Connecting the stack

When the CRM, billing and product data disagree, someone reconciles them by hand. Connecting business systems around agreed definitions turns that into a background process.

Reporting for founders and investors

Board packs and investor updates often take days to assemble. A single agreed set of metrics, pulled automatically, gives founders the numbers on demand.

Building the product itself

For founders with an idea and a market, we take the product from definition to working software: agreeing what the first version must achieve, designing the options and building the one that fits.

Scale operations without hiring at the same rate

Hiring ahead of growth is expensive, and hiring behind it burns out the team. The middle path is to find the work that does not need a person and stop people doing it. That starts with measuring where time actually goes, not with buying another tool. Read more in how to scale operations without hiring and how to reduce manual work.

Build, buy or integrate: choosing for a startup

Startups face the build or buy question more often than most companies, and usually under time pressure. Buying is fast but leaves you paying for features nobody uses and working around tools that do not fit. Building fits perfectly but takes longer and needs looking after. Integrating what you already have is often the cheapest answer, and the most overlooked.

The Solution Design Sprint puts these routes side by side for your specific outcome, with the cost, timeline and risk of each, so the decision rests on numbers rather than on the last demo you saw. Our guide to build versus buy software explains the trade-offs.

What the first two weeks look like

We speak with the founders and the people who run onboarding, support, finance and product. We follow a few real customers from signed contract to first value and note where work is done twice, where it waits and where it depends on one person. By the end you have one agreed page: the outcome for the next six and twelve months, the metrics that prove it, and where in the business it will show. If you can already say that precisely, you do not need a Clarity Sprint, and we will tell you so.

Who we work with

  • Seed and Series A SaaS companies whose operations team is becoming the bottleneck.
  • PropTech and FinTech startups with onboarding, compliance or payments steps that do not scale by hand.
  • Founders with an idea who need a team that will define, design and build the first version.
  • Scale-ups replacing early tools that no longer fit.

What changed for companies we have worked with

For a gold platform we helped grow a mobile app from around 500,000 to more than 1.5 million users in under two years, and we are now building their partner portal. With Centrus360 we went from idea to a working product in nine months. Its founder came to us as a client and then asked us to become co-founders, because we were treating his business as our own.

SaaS operations automation questions we get asked

What is SaaS operations automation?

It is the work of making onboarding, billing, support and reporting run without people moving data between tools by hand. It starts by agreeing what the operations should achieve, and only then connects, configures or builds the software.

We are early stage. Is it too soon?

Early is often the cheapest time. Agreeing how operations should work before the customer count doubles costs far less than untangling it afterwards.

Can you build our product?

Yes. We take products from definition to working software and take responsibility for implementation. We start by agreeing what the first version must achieve, so you build what customers need rather than everything on the list.

Do we need a technical co-founder first?

Not necessarily. Many founders work with us before they hire a CTO. We define the outcome, design the options and implement the chosen one, and we document everything so a future technical lead can take it over without starting again.

How long does it take?

The Clarity Sprint takes two to three weeks. Implementation timelines and price are fixed after the design stage, once the route is chosen.
